Portable Exhibits Exhibitor Magazine
Today everyone is talking portable when designing and purchasing a booth for exhibiting. Portable means an exhibit manager can transport the display himself. Portable exhibits come in two basic structural designs: pop-ups and panel systems. Pop-ups are collapsible-frame displays that expand and lock in place either manufally or automatically. This provides a structure to which you can attach panels of flexihle plastic or facing material.
Panel systems use a skeletal frame with attachable display panels. They consist of solid, individual panels that join together with connectors or hinges. The frame is either external, like a “picture-frame” structure that a panel fits into, or internal, like a metal rim or bracing inside the panel. Portables require a much smaller investment than custom or modular/system exhibits. They are also lightweight and easy to assemble, which saves on transportation, drayage and installation. If you can set up your exhibit in 30 minutes or less, union workers may not even be needed to help with assembly—another cost-saver. However, always check with exhibit sales managers of the tradeshow to verify specific rules and regulations.
In the United States a custom exhibit can range from $125 to $265 a square foot. Rentals can range from $65 to $175 a square foot. This makes portable exhibits a good option for regional shows and for the small or first-time exhibitor.
